I haven't been able to get out much lately to take photos and when I do it's often not ideal locations or weather. Winters in Victoria, BC aren't as cold as the rest of Canada, but they are characterized by grey, colourless days from January to March.
I recently took a walk around nearby Rithet's Bog and didn't even have the satisfaction of seeing any ducks in the ponds. I had to settle for this field of bullrushes.

Treeline
Trees at the top of Mt. Washington. My wife and I are re-discovering skiing after decades away from the sport. As an Ontario boy I had never skied real mountains before. This past weekend I wiped out in spectacular fashion not just once but twice. Still, for someone who hasn't been on skis in over four decades, I call that a win...

Dinosaur
I've previously taken pictures of this eyecatching metal sculpture located beside the highway on the way to Port Alberni. The last time I saw him, he was looking pretty rusty but I see he's received a fresh coat of paint since then.

Mars Attacks!!
Like the similar photo I took a couple of years ago, this one reminds me of the various cinematic and literary versions of War of the Worlds with the Martian machines striding across the countryside spewing death rays.
In reality, these are the cranes overlooking the dockyards of Esquimalt seen from the far side of the harbour.

Warship
Taken from the back of nearby Esquimalt Harbour where our local naval base is located. This ship is a Canadian Patrol Frigate, one of our newest classes of ships which are already about 15 years old. This particular one is the Ottawa, commissioned in 1996.
I was involved with the design of these for a couple of years during my final years in the navy.
This particular ship is in 'dress ship' mode. Those are the lines of flags from bow to stern. Dressing ship is done to mark special occasions.
